Weekend Service Sermon

Every parent wants what’s best for their children.  They spend time, money and energy in order that their children might mature and succeed in life.  But given all of the various things that we should or can do for our children, how do we decide what to give priority to?  The Bible teaches us that there is one thing, more than almost anything else, that we should impart to our children.  And that one thing is wisdom.  Today we want to examine why instilling wisdom is so vital for our children’s future and how we can help them gain wisdom for themselves.     

1. Wisdom is key to happiness and success.

2. The primary place that children learn wisdom is at home.

3. Tools for instilling wisdom in a child:

1. Pour in wisdom: Teach

§         What to teach:  The fear of the Lord

§         When to teach:  Always and everywhere

2. Drive out folly: Discipline

• Why we discipline:  Love
• How we discipline:  Wisely     

3. Seek grace and wisdom: Pray
