 Bible Study Questions and Notes

Small group Bible studies meet each week to discuss topics relating to the weekend service.  These study notes act as a guide for the Bible study participants.  Note that on weeks where there is a guest speaker or the Bible studies are not in session, there may not be a set of study notes posted.

1 Corinthians 8-11 Series : Male and Female (Part 2) (6/3/2007)
Scripture passage: 1 Corinthians 11:2-16
Speaker: Pastor John Neufeld
Sermon Abstract:

Although roles and gender have been a battleground for men and women, it should not be so for the body of Christ.  Our marching orders do not come from our culture, our own desires or our own feelings.  We are the people of God, submitting to Christ’s rule in all things.  Once that is established, it becomes a matter of learning and discipleship.  It also allows us to teach our little boys to be men, and our little girls to be women – men and women obedient to Christ.

A.  The basic principle of roles for men and women
 1.  Christ’s authority is absolute
 2.  Christ is the model of leadership for men
 3.  Christ is the model of submission for women

B.  The freedom this principle engenders
 1.  Both men and women use all the gifts the Holy Spirit has given them
 2.  Both men and women use the gifts in gender specific ways

C.  The customs this principle engenders
1.  Men and women should look and dress differently
 2.  Our social customs should reinforce not undermine our beliefs

D.  The outcome this principle brings
 1.  An understanding of our purpose before God
 2.  A mutual respect for one another
 3.  Peace and unity in the body of Christ
