Christmas Series 2007 : Peace On Earth (Part II) (12/23/2007)
Scripture passage: Isaiah 9:1-7
Speaker: Pastor John Neufeld
Sermon Abstract:
The desire for peace on earth is profound. Hardly anyone can be found who does not want it. There are of course hundreds of different ideas as to how peace can be brought. Many people have tried, but all their attempts have failed. From what was once called “Pax Romana” to recent “peace marches” in our day, all efforts at peace eventually fail, as human problems and sins are greater than any person or government can undertake. Why will Jesus be able to do what no one else can? Today we will find out why, by examining the five names that Isaiah gives to the child to be born in Bethlehem.
1. Wonderful
- Beyond understanding
- Author of astonishing deeds
2. Counselor
- Wisdom from the Father
- Director of the nations
3. Mighty God
- Unlimited in power
- Champion in battle
4. Father of Eternity
- Possessor of the ages
- Eternal provider for his children
5. Prince of Peace
- Supreme military commander
- Bringer of completeness
