Small group Bible studies meet each week to discuss topics relating to the weekend service. These study notes act as a guide for the Bible study participants. Note that on weeks where there is a guest speaker or the Bible studies are not in session, there may not be a set of study notes posted.
Easter Series 2008 : The Great Exchange (3/16/2008)
Scripture passage: 2 Corinthians 5:21
Speaker: Pastor John Neufeld
Sermon Abstract:
One of the most important words in the Bible is the word “reckoned.” It comes to us from the world of commercial accounts, involving both debits and credits. It has to do with what we owe and what is owed to us. The Bible makes plain that we owe God eternal obedience and worship, and God owes us eternal punishment. If this is the case, why have the accounts not been settled? The answer is the Easter story. I can think of no greater enterprise than to consider this important word “reckoned”. In this word is a description of the eternity of every man.
1. We are reckoned sinners by nature in Adam
2. Our sin was reckoned to the sinless Christ
3. Christ’s sinlessness was reckoned to us
4. God is satisfied and glorified
5. We have come to be united with Christ
6. Therefore: our justification is by faith and by faith alone
